Walking in This World – Starting Over

Walking in this World

Walking in this World

I am reading Walking in this World: The Practical Art of Creativityby Julia Cameron. Julia also authored a book I have written about titled, The Artist’s Way. If you want to read my article click here.

Funny how books come in and out of your life.  I got this book a year ago and thought it was just what I needed to be reading. But, apparently I wasn’t ready. I started reading the book and after a few chapters stopped. I ran across the book the other day as I was preparing to go on a trip to visit family in Texas. I had a nagging desire to start reading the book again.  I debated as to whether or not I should start where I left off or start at the beginning.  I decided I wanted to get the full benefit of the experience, so I decided to start over.

Today I am committed to reading the book and doing the weekly assignments all the way to the end. I signed the Creativity Contract, committing myself to using three basic tools, which are writing Morning Pages, taking an Artist Date once a week and taking a weekly walk.  Julia also throws in a clause about taking care of yourself, eating right, getting enough sleep, and surrounding yourself with gentle companionship.

The book is divided into weekly readings.  It takes twelve weeks to finish the book and the assignments.  This week’s reading is titled, “Discovering a Sense of Origin”. Julia has included inspiring or thoughtful quotes in the margins of the book as well. Each week you have certain tasks that fit with the theme for the week.  I am looking forward to doing these tasks.

I was curious as to whether or not any of my readers would like to commit to reading this book along with me. I hope some of you will. You can easily purchase the book online or at a local bookstore.

Anyone out there want to start this process with me?

I am excited and hopeful about the benefits of reading and doing the assignments in this book.  I want to share this experience with others. So, for the next twelve weeks I am going to write about my progress through the book as my Wednesday blog article. Next week I will write about Week One. I am looking forward to getting insight from others in to this book whether you have already worked your way through the book, are just beginning, or starting over.
