The hardest part of writing my Friday devotional is limiting myself to one quote. There are so many interesting, inspirational quotes that would be appropriate for a creativity devotional. I spent a lot of time this morning reading quotes until I decided the quote above was the one I wanted to use.
As artists, we have many ups and downs. We have things happen in our personal life that affect our creativity such as illness, divorce, financial difficulty, etc. We have ups and downs in our creative life as well. Life is like a roller coaster ride and certainly never becomes boring.
Marsha Sinetar’s quote make me realize that the ups and downs are actual blessings. The ups and downs are the life experiences that make me who I am today. Those life experiences made you who you are as well. We are unique. No one has the same combination of experiences, even close family members. How wonderful it is to be who we are!
So, today let’s be grateful. Focus on what you have learned in your past and apply it to your present. Make a gratitude list. Tell your family how much they mean to you. Go outside to enjoy the warmth of the sun on your face or a gentle breeze. Take a deep breath and thank God for all our opportunities to develop values and goals.
Lord, Thank you for all the many blessings in this life. Thank you for a loving family, caring friends, pets, nature, the changing seasons, deer walking through my pasture, blue herons on the pond, fresh air to breath, and a child’s hug. Thank you for all life experiences. Help me to accept the ups and downs as the natural course of life. Help me to learn from these experiences and to build a life that would make you proud. Bless my creativity. When I feel that the creative flow is slowing down, let me take the time to rest, refocus and try again. I ask all this in Christ’s name. Amen.
