“No great thing is created suddenly.”
Epictetus (Greek philosopher)
The older I get the more excited I become about learning new things. I find that I am interested in many subjects I would have never dreamed about years ago, things I did not even know existed.
When I was a teenager I was very focused. Even as a young adult I remained focused. I limited myself to becoming good at only a certain number of things. I wanted to be the best at whatever I tried.
Now that I am in my fifties, I embrace new knowledge and experiences with a certain amount of zeal that I never had before. My interests have not necessarily changed, but they have just grown exponentially.
Does this happen to all of us? I do not know. I just know what is happening in my life. I think the saying, “You aren’t getting older, you’re getting better,” is true. A great life does not happen overnight. Neither does the ability to make great art. Greatness does not happen suddenly. It takes time, patience, enthusiasm, energy, trials, and more.
I hope you do not expect too much of yourself too soon as an artist. Give yourself time to grow, to learn, and to get excited about new things. Life will be so much more fun and fulfilling. Your art will show that attitude also.
Lord, Creator of all Greatness,
Thank you for the amount of time we have here on Earth. Thank you for the vastness of experiences we can have in our short lifetime. Help us to remain excited about life and learning. Give us new opportunities on a daily basis that will influence our art and our lives for the better. We are forever your servants.
In Christ’s Name. Amen.
