Creativity Devotional – Forgive Your Creative Imperfections

Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against
one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Colossians 3:13

Hi! If you have been reading the articles on this blog you know that I am studying The Creative Call by Janice Elsheimer. I write an article about a chapter each Wednesday. I thought I would include the memory verse for next week in this devotional. The verse comes from Colossians 3:13.

Forgiveness can be a tough subject. Forgiving can be extremely hard to do. I feel that sometimes it is harder to forgive ourselves than it is to forgive others. Do you agree?

Today I want to focus on having forgiveness when we get in the studio or art room. Do you have an unforgiving heart when you create? Do you expect perfection in your work? Do you stop dead when you mess up or make a mistake? Are you extremely critical of your art work? Are you afraid to start a project because you do not feel confident in your abilities as an artist?

I feel the Lord loves our artwork no matter what. The Lord sees the heart of the person that created the work. He sees the intention and the motivation. The Lord sees the beauty even if we cannot. So,  if you are an artist that is a perfectionist, please take a moment to say a prayer, to forgive yourself for being human, for your imperfections. Then get back in to the studio and have fun creating for your Lord.

God with Infinite Wisdom:

I pray that you will be with each and every person reading this article today. I pray that you will help each of us to forgive our imperfections. Help us to stop being so critical of ourselves. Bless us with confidence that will overcome any creative blocks we may have. Be with us as we create. Let us feel you presence. Remove any sense of guilt, remorse, regret we may have about our art work or creativity.   In Christ’s Name. Amen.
