Art Should be inspired by the theme “DREAMS”.
I saw this quote on a poster at Reynolds High School. Reynolds High School is in Troutdale, Oregon. I have been doing some substitute teaching at this school lately. The other day I finally got the opportunity to be a substitute for an art teacher. I was very excited to actually have a chance to teach instead of just fill in.
Reynolds High School has an Arts and Communications building. It is impressive. I felt like I was in a college setting because I have always taught at such a small school. The building has a large hallway open to the upper classrooms. One section upstairs has a grand piano. Periodically I could hear beautiful melodies throughout the building. During lunch I roamed through the hallway looking at all the wonderful art exhibited.
I noticed the quality of the work. Some of the pieces were exceptional. I did not know that all this art was the Reynolds High School Annual Art Show and Auction.
Wow! I am really impressed now. When I taught art, I sponsored an art show. I got awards and prizes to give out to the students. I even helped some students sell their work to interested patrons of the arts. I never dreamed of having an auction and giving the community the opportunity to purchase original art work. What a great cause. What a great experience for the students and the community. What a great way to support the Arts.
If you live in the Portland, Oregon area set aside March 4th on your calendar. The Art Auction will be from 5:00 – 8:30 pm. I plan to attend to see how this function is run. I hope to see you there!
